Lady Eaglets’ win consolation trophy in Corpus tourney

The Woodsboro Lady Eaglets lost the first game but won the next two in a basketball tournament on Saturday, Dec. 13 in Corpus Christi.

The seventh grade Lady Eaglets lost in overtime to St. James Middle School but went on to win the last two games.

“The seventh grade Lady Eaglets started off with a bad morning” said Coach Perez. “The game went into overtime with a three point buzzer shot from the opposing team to end the game 15-12.”

Leading scorers in the game were Kasye McCool with 6 points; Jamie Wilson, 3; Desirae Perez, 2; and Toni Martinez, 1.

“Everyone played a lot better than the first game and contributed to the win that put us in the consolation bracket,” Perez said.

The team won with a final score of 36-4. Leading scorers for this game were Taylor Perez with 12 points; Kasye McCool, 10; Toni Martinez and Jamie Wilson each added 6 and Haley Deck, 2.

The Lady Eaglets took the last game 44-30 against Cullen Middle School.

Leading scorers were Taylor Perez with 11 points; Melissa Zuniga, 10; Toni Martinez, 6, Kasye McCool, 5; KaLynn Abila and Jamie Wilson each added 4; Desirae Perez and Madalynn Nixon added 2 points each.

“The girls played with such intensity which makes them fun to watch and led to the consolation win, the girls were ecstatic to bring home a trophy”, said Coach Perez.
