District Judge Joel Johnson sentenced Gilberto Martinez after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.
Martinez had been indicted on the first degree felony charge in connection with an incident that took place on July 15, 2004.
According to the indictment, his victim was a girl under the age of 14.
Investigators with the Beeville Police Department had filed the case in July 2009.
Martinez had been scheduled for jury trials on the charge in September 2009 and again on May 17 of this year.
He eventually changed his plea to guilty.
The defendant could have been sentenced to 99 years or life in prison and fined $10,000 following his conviction.

why not the 99 years???
why even have a trial???
That sort of statement is not at all surprising from an ignorant, misinformed type that voted for “change”!
Were mitigating issues introduced, what was the weight of evidence as presented, know-better? Try to answer under one name this time.
