Moses Martinez said he wanted to add to the recent story concerning two men who rescued an elderly man from a swarm of angry bees earlier this month.

Martinez said the story suggested that he ran inside and escaped the swarm but that was not entirely accurate.

He said he was stung numerous times by bees coming from the same colony that attacked Ralph Sutherland before he could get inside his own home.

“I went to the hospital in the same ambulance with him,” Martinez said as he pointed to a photo of Emilio Tejeda.

Martinez said he was in the emergency room at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville for four hours and was given antibiotics to overcome the effects of the stings.

He said emergency room staff members removed 54 stingers from his back and that did not count the stingers taken from his arms and stomach.
