Leanne McNinch of Beeville recently earned her master of science degree from Western Governors University (, an online, non-profit university committed to expanding access to higher education through online, competency-based degree programs.

She was one of more than 200 graduates and the largest graduating class to date, who received degrees at the semiannual commencement ceremony held in Salt Lake City on July 17.

Undersecretary Dr. Martha Kanter, who oversees policies, programs and activities related to postsecondary education, vocational and adult education and federal student aid for the U.S. Department of Education, delivered the commencement address. Students who were not able to attend the ceremony were able to watch the event via live video stream.
