The Welder Wildlife Foundation will host a hummingbird banding demonstration from 2:30 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 14. The demonstration will be led by Dr. Brent Ortego, wildlife diversity biologist, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Dr. Ortego has done extensive research in the banding of hummingbirds and is providing this opportunity for the public to observe a variety of hummingbird species up close, discuss the purpose and technique of bird banding, and have the rare opportunity to handle a hummingbird. Registration is $10 and participants can choose to “adopt a hummingbird” for a fee of $5. “Adopting a hummingbird” will allow participants to handle and be photographed with one of the birds. All profits will be used towards the Welder’s Conservation Education Program. Participants are encouraged to bring a hat, sunscreen, camera and a camp chair. Binoculars and bird guides are available.

Due to limited space reservations must be received by Sept. 10. Send your name, contact information and fee to: Mandy Corso, Welder Wildlife Foundation, P.O. Box 1400, Sinton, Texas 78387.
