All three sets were very close but the home team prevailed in all three, 27-25, 27-25 and 25-20.
“We were very pleased with the girls’ hustle and determination. In the third set we were down seven points, yet they didn’t get down on themselves, they worked even harder to pull out the best win of the three sets,” said head coach Erica Garza.
Woodsboro played well but the home court advantage went to the Pettus varsity. Sets one and two of the best of five went into extra points before Pettus scored the final two points in each set for the victories.
“We didn’t have any one player stand out; it was a great team effort. We hope to keep the determination throughout the season and continue to improve our overall game,” Garza said.
Savannah Delbosque and Ryan Grayson each contributed two blocks at the net for the Lady Eagle defense. Tori Arrizola led the team with five kills and Madi Garza and Grayson each had four kills. Chloe Garza and Huskey helped out with 23 and 20 assists in the match.
The Lady Eagles played the Kenedy Leopards on Friday night and will be in Runge on Tuesday night.
The Pettus JV team will host its own tournament on Saturday.
