REFUGIO – Miguel Lagunas, 22, was arrested and faced charges of felony theft, according to Refugio Police Chief Andy Lopez Jr.

Texas Star Division managers became suspicious of Lagunas, an employee at the Refugio Texas Star, and reported internal theft to the Refugio Police Department.

“Police Investigator Danny Madrigal uncovered a fraudulent scheme by Lagunas, which resulted in more than $3,700 of embezzled money from the Texas Star store,” Lopez said.

He added that Lagunas was from Corpus Christi and had been living in Refugio for the past three years and had worked multiple jobs in town.

“Most of the stolen money was recovered,” Lopez said. He noted that the money was recovered because of Madrigal’s diligence in investigating.

“Lagunas gave Investigator Madrigal an admission of thievery,” Lopez said.

Lagunas’ criminal charges of felony theft will be reviewed by a grand jury.
