BEEVILLE – The Coastal Bend volleyball team won its third straight match and ran its record to 8-4 on the year Tuesday night at home.

The Cougars bested region foe Wharton County in five sets in a non-region affair at the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center.

Coastal Bend won the odd-numbered sets to capture the victory, winning the first 25-19, the third 25-16 and the tie-breaking fifth set by a 15-12 count.

Wharton won the second set 25-18 and then took the fourth set 25-22 to extend the match into the fifth.

Five Cougars had at least six kills as the hosts racked up 50 total kills in the win.

Cameron Del Angel had a team-best 12 kills and hit .250 for the match with just four errors on 32 attempts.

Jodi Linscomb hit .296 for the match with 10 kills and just two errors on 27 attacks.

Emma Batte led the team in hitting with a .318 average, tallying nine kills against just two errors on 22 attacks.

Ava Johnson recorded seven kills, while Chaisdy Gonzales added six kills with a .312 hitting percentage (one error on 16 attacks).

Meadow Rodriguez had 27 assists to lead Coastal Bend, while Samantha Santos had 13 assists.

Santos, Gonzales and Alyssa Estrada each recorded three aces.

Alyssa Hutcheson led the Cougars with 30 digs. Estrada had 13 and Santos had 11. Gonzales and Johnson both added eight digs.

Batte and Linscomb each had two solo blocks.

CBC 3, Northeast Lakeview 0

The Cougars swept visiting Northeast Lakeview here in Beeville last Friday.

Coastal Bend won the first set 25-14, the second set 25-22 and the third set 25-19 to get the win.

Del Angel had 11 kills and four digs for the Cougars, while Johnson had seven kills and nine digs.

Batte and Rodriguez both had five kills.

Leandra Miranda led the team in assists with 23. Hutcheson had a team-leading 22 digs. Estrada added 11 digs.

CBC 3, Richland 1

The Cougars snapped a three-match skid by beating Richland in their second match at a triangular in Temple last Wednesday.

The Cougars and ThunderDucks split the first two sets with former winning the first 25-22 and the latter winning the second 26-24.

Coastal Bend took the next two sets to close out the match, 25-16 and 25-22.

Del Angel had 13 kills to lead CBC, while Johnson and Batte both recorded seven kills.

Rodriguez had a team-best 29 assists and also led the team in aces with four.

Hutcheson led three Cougars in double figures in digs with 19. Estrada had 14 and Brianna Ramos added 13.

Temple 3, CBC 0

Temple handed the Cougars a three-set sweep in the first match at the triangular last Wednesday.

Temple won the first set 25-18, the second set 25-16 and the third set 25-20.

Johnson had eight kills to lead Coastal Bend. Batte added four, while Del Angel had three.

Miranda and Rodriguez both had 10 assists.

Hutcheson led in digs with 17. Cierra Hernandez had 11 digs.
