Dick Carter, 73, formerly of Beeville, died Friday, July 5, 2019, at Houston Hospice following a long illness.
Mr. Carter was born April 5, 1946, in Steubenville, Ohio. He graduated from Wadsworth High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Mary Chesshir and Renee Stinson and loved motorcycle touring and campfires with friends. While in Beeville, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, worked with the Key Club, coached softball and was a football official for many years. In Bay City, he became a member of the Gulf Coast Riders, Road Riders Inc., the Matagorda County Calvary and the Texas Historical Shootist Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Betty Carter; stepmother, Gladys Carter; brother, Tim Carter; and his first wife, Mary Chessir Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Renee Carter, two daughters, Trisha (Trent)Mattison of Beaumont and Erin (Mark)Ehlermann of Perham, Maine; stepson, Eric (Kari) Stewart of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Logan Burke and Cooper Mattison, Andrew Ehlerman and Ryan Ehlerman and Chloe Stewart; brothers, Larry (Connie) Carter of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Doug (Ann) Carter of Tallmadge, Ohio; sisters, Jennie Carter of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Zana (Matt) Schweyer of Bluffton, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews and close friends.
Visitation was held Monday, July 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
The funeral service was conducted there Tuesday, July 9, at 10 a.m.
