WASHINGTON, D.C. – Goliad High School Class of 2000 alumnus Eddie Garcia recenty earned a master’s degree in Legislative Affairs from the George Washington University, in Washington, D.C., as well as being promoted to the rank of major in the United States Army.

The promotion ceremony was hosted by Congressman Trent Kelly from Mississippi’s First Congressional District and officiated by Lt. Gen. Fran Beaudette, Commander of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, and Garcia was pinned by his wife Veronica and daughter Aaliyah. 

Garcia is an officer in the U.S. Army, a Congressional Fellow in the House of Representatives, a small business owner, a husband and a father of two.

Throughout his career, Garcia served as the executive communications officer to the U.S. Central Command, Commanding General. He has commanded more than 300 paratroopers in the 82nd Airborne Division (2016-17), was the chief information technology officer for all military networks in Iraq (2015-16), served as chief information technology officer for the forward-deployed Special Forces Battalion in Germany and Afghanistan (2011-14).

Garcia holds a master’s degree in Information Technology-Project Management and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College.

He is the son of Becky and Roy Martinez and Edward and Sherry Garcia, all of Goliad.
