KARNES CITY – The 2019 street project in Karnes City was awarded to Garrett Construction Company as the city council approved the action at the regular meeting Tuesday, June 25.
Work and repairs should begin shortly around town.
The local Chamber of Commerce will hold its third annual Halloween Celebration downtown as permission was granted by the city to close down a portion of Calvert Street between Market and Bond streets Thursday, Oct. 31, to the benefit of the goblins, ghosts and trick or treaters.
The city council also accepted an engagement letter from auditors Armstrong, Vaughan and Associates, P.C., for the 2019 City of Karnes City audit.
The council held a public hearing on the Karnes-Wilson Counties Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (HAZMAP). The hearing is a mandatory step prior to sending the plan into FEMA for its approval. The council agreed to send the plan as proposed.
The council went into a closed session to discuss two items that were subsequently returned for discussion and action in the open session.
With respect to the city’s leases with Marathon Oil, the council accepted the updated Marathon Division orders.
In one final action, the council requested the city attorney to work on an updated evaluation instrument for the city manager’s annual evaluation.
The next city council meeting is scheduled to be held Tuesday, July 30. at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
