Westerners have had a fascination with the Egyptian ritual of mummifications for centuries. Knowledge of the Egyptian theories of the afterlife were known since the decipherment of hieroglyphics when the Rosetta Stone was discovered in 1799.

I am sure you have noticed that wildflower season is beginning. The Bluebonnets are blooming and other wildflowers are popping up along roadsides and fields. And that lovely Texas native, Mountain Laurel, is blooming.

I don’t know why, but I decided to try my hand at making bread again. I’ve never been good at making things that require yeast in them, except that one time I made two huge pans of kolaches, and I vowed never to do that again.

I’m sorry this column is so short this week. I haven’t made anything new as Bil has been sick with the flu and he’s been living off chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sandwiches while I’ve been getting drive-through salads for myself.

A few warm days this month triggered the blooming of our first wildflowers. Have you noticed? Not so many yet, but I see a few patches of Huisache Daisies on vacant lots and some Drummond’s Phlox along the roadways. And a few Bluebonnets here and there.
