REFUGIO – Do you need help with computers? Do you want to upgrade your job hunting or work skills?

The Dennis M. O’Connor Public Library, in Refugio, is hosting free computer classes that can help expand ones knowledge of computers.  

These classes are organized and provided by the Frank H. Dotterweich of Engineering Department from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.  

The following training sessions will be provided at the library:

•Basic Computer and Internet Skills: 5 p.m. Thursday, July 11. In this session participants will learn basic computer and internet vocabulary and functionality, internet browsing and use of search engines, online job searching and opening email accounts and tips to keep personal information safe on the internet. 

•Introduction to Microsoft Word and Excel: 5 p.m. Thursday, July 25. In this session participants will learn how to perform basic tasks in MS Word, including how to work with text, tables and pictures, the basic use of MS Excel, how to identify the components of a spreadsheet, enter data into a spreadsheet and perform basic mathematical tasks.

Classes are designed to make beginners feel comfortable, so do not hesitate to call the library for details and reserve a spot. Registration for these classes is required.

The number of computers is limited, but participants can bring personal laptops, as long as the computer already has the Microsoft Word and Excel programs loaded. 

Snacks and soft drinks will be provided. Support for this program is provided by a grant from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation.
