REFUGIO – The Bobcat baseball team is headed to the 2A Regional Finals for the first time since 2015.

To get there, they faced a tough team in Evadale and swept the series in the best of three contest beating the Rebels 5-2 in the first game and 6-3 in the second.

Mike Firova blasted a bases-loaded single in the fourth inning to bring in the go-ahead run to clinch the 5-2 victory in game one.

Pitcher Jared Kelley struck out 11 batters before reaching his pitch limit after the fifth inning.

In game two this past Friday, Refugio scored twice in the first inning and twice in the second.

Ethan Perez and Izac Canchola added to the score in the third.

The Rebels tacked on two runs in the third to make it 6-2 and another run in the fourth, but Austin Ochoa and crew would not allow another by Evadale.

The Bobcats now face defending champions Big Sandy in a Regional Finals best of three this week. The series will take place at Houston Memorial Mustang Field with game one taking place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 29.

Game two will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, and, if necessary, game three will follow game two.
