Work crews began taking down the billboards near the causeway between Portland and Corpus Christi last Monday afternoon near Indian Point Park. The city of Portland had been trying to get the eyesores removed since they were damaged by Hurricane Harvey two years ago. In June of this year, Portland reached an agreement with Corpus Christi to remove not just the damages billboards, but all seven and replace them with an electronic sign. In the settlement against Corpus, Portland will receive 10 years of free advertisement on the new sign and the area, which is a protected wetland preserve, will be rehabilitated. The workers spent the entire day removing two damaged billboards. No word was given as to when the others will be taken down.
