TAFT – The Friends of the Taft City Parks, based here, will offer a First Down Summer Camp for children ages 5-10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday,  July 21,  at the Taft Public Recreation Complex/Taft Water Park.

This free event, part of USA Football’s First Down initiative, introduces children to the fun and fitness of football by teaching the basic skills of running, jumping, passing and catching in an upbeat, dynamic environment.

First Down skills and drills are aligned with USA Football’s Football Development Model, a forward-thinking framework for children to learn the sport in a developmentally appropriate manner and fun atmosphere.

“We’re excited to partner with the National Football League, as well as USA Football to bring a fun, free and friendly football clinic to local youths” said Ryan Trevino, chief executive officer of Friends of the Taft City Parks. “Our goal with the First Down Camp is to introduce and get youths of all ages and genders excited about playing football this season, either it be tackle or flag.”

“This partnership with Friends of the Taft City Parks is good for USA Football, the city of Taft and, most importantly, the kids,” said Scott Hallenbeck, executive director of USA Football.

Kids can register for free by going to the Friends of the Taft City Parks Facebook page facebook.com/TaftParks.
