KARNES CITY – The Sinton Lady Pirate volleyball season came a close Thursday night in Karnes City with their 25-22, 21-25, 17-25, 25-23, 6-15 loss to Navarro in the Area round. Sinton finishes their first season under Coach Michael Trujillo with a record of 27-11.
Game one was tight from the onset with the two teams battling to a 10-10 tie before the Lady Panthers took a 15-12 lead. A pair of kills by Autumn Moses helped the Lady Pirates take an 18-15 and an Anna Thomas block for point extended their margin to 20-15. Navarro pulled within 23-22, but Emma Thomas put the game away with the final service point.
Sinton trailed 8-6 at the onset of game one before kills by Moses and Emma Thomas tied the game 8-8. The Lady Pirates saw Navarro open up a 19-14 lead before Sinton tied the game at 21-21 on a E. Thomas kill, but the Lady Panthers went on to win 25-21.
Sinton only led once in game three as the Lady Panthers captured the set 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead in sets.
The Lady Pirates fell behind 7-2 in game four before making their way back into the set. After Madisyn Burnell picked up a block for point her assist for Stella Thomas got Sinton within 15-14. Navarro extended their lead to 20-16 but a push and kill by Moses brought Sinton back, closing the gap to 21-19. Down 23-22, Courtney Hesseltine served up three straight points to hand Sinton game four 25-23.
Game five did not go the way of the Lady Pirates as Navarro jumped out to a quick lead and go on the end Sinton’s season 15-6.
“The Lady Pirates had another great season, protecting the tradition by winning the district title. They fought hard in the playoffs and will be returning all starters next year,” said Trujillo.
Autumn Moses finished with 19 kills, one ace and a block followed by Emma Thomas with 16 digs and 14 kills, Micah Mascorro added 15 digs and an ace, Madisyn Burnell picked up 24 assists and Hannah Gallegos added 12, Courtney Hesseltine had 18 digs while Anna Thomas had two blocks and Stella Thomas had 1.5 blocks.
