Melva Muriel McCain Groom, 95, formerly of Mathis, died Friday, June 7, 2019.
Mrs. Groom was born Feb. 29, 1924, to Thelma Muriel Lemley and C.B. McCain in Votaw in Live Oak County. She graduated from George West High School and married Marvin Curtis Groom on Oct. 24, 1942. She enjoyed gardening, especially cactus and succulents as well as had a special love for eagles, painted buntings and hummingbirds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; father-in-law, Orin Curtis Groom; mother-in-law, Ethel Corrin Fuller; brothers, Gladwell McCain, Dalton McCain and Elvis McCain; sisters, Janet Alston and Bobbye Parker; brother-in-law, A.B. Thompson; son-in-law, Wilbert Buetow; and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include two sons, Lyndall (Teresa) Groom and Kerwin (Carolyn) Groom; two daughters, Nita Buetow and Delayne (David) Selby; sister, Neva Thompson; brothers, Doyle McCain and Dwain (Bobbi) McCain; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and cousins and friends.
Visitation was held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Dobie Funeral Home in Mathis.
The funeral service was conducted there at 10 a.m. today (Thursday, June 13). Burial followed at Cenizo Hill in Mathis.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
