BISHOP – The varsity George West Longhorns football team went on the road to Bishop to face the district rival Badgers on Friday, Nov. 2. The Longhorns scored 28 points in the second quarter, going into the locker room up 42-0 in what would finish as a 55-0 beatdown of Bishop.

Quarterback Dakota Wallek put up video game numbers, completing 13-of-14 passes for 407 yards and five touchdowns. Hunter Freeman caught six of Wallek’s passes, totaling 156 yards and two scores. Ethan White tallied 124 yards and hit the end zone once on just three catches. Brenden Henicke amassed 109 yards and a score on two catches. Joseph Rodriguez caught one pass for 10 yards. Jared Zuniga had one reception for eight yards and a touchdown. 

Rodriguez carried the ball six times for 53 yards and a touchdown. Jimmy Miller had one rush attempt for 29 yards and a score. Ryan Thomisee gained 24 yards on four carries. Jacob Lucas finished with 15 yards on two carries. Zuniga had 14 yards on three carries. Henicke carried the ball five times for 12 yards and a trip to the end zone. Gerald Reyes gained four yards on his only carry of the game, Bryan Chapa recorded one carry for three yards. White converted seven-of-eight extra point kicks.

Jacob Watkins led with 10 total tackles (four for loss), one sack and one quarterback hurry. Victor Rivas added seven tackles, including half of a sack, as well as two pass deflections and one hurry. Logan Orr recorded six tackles (one for loss) and two hurries. Jared Zuniga had four tackles (one for loss) and two deflections. Freeman tallied four tackles and six deflections. Thomisee recorded four tackles (one for loss). Saul Guerra recorded three tackles for loss. John Zuniga tallied two tackles and one deflection. Reyes finished with two tackles, an interception and a forced fumble. Justin Duarte was credited with two tackles (one for loss). Chapa had two tackles (one for loss) as well as one hurry. Samuel Esqueda finished with two tackles, one hurry and was credited with half of a sack. Ethan Bernal recorded two tackles. Rory Campbell recorded one tackle and one deflection. Landon Hensley had two pass deflections and one tackle for loss. Michael Upton recorded one tackle for loss and one deflection. Colton Krueger tallied one tackle for loss. Miller and Devin Smith added one tackle apiece. Lucas recorded six deflections. Rodriguez and Henicke each had five deflections. Angel Serrano was credited with one hurry.

The win improved George West to 8-1 on the season, as well as 6-0 in district play. With the district championship wrapped up, the Longhorns will close out the regular season at home against the Falfurrias Bulls on Friday, Nov. 9. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
